First interview

This is a getting-to-know-you meeting with the hiring manager. You’ll be asked questions about your application motivation and professional experience, and you’ll get your questions answered as well.

Second interview

If we invite you for a second interview, depending on the position, it will take the form of one of the following:

Presentation of a practical task following a technical discussion
Trial working day, or
Peer programming session (applies to software development roles)

Third interview

If we invite you for a third interview, candidates for leadership positions will get to know the team. In the software development department, we’ll invite you for an insight day.

Due to GDPR restrictions, the only applications we can accept are those submitted via the form on our homepage. The maximum file size is 10 MB. Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications by e-mail or via social media; they will be deleted in accordance with data protection regulations. Please do not include an application photo nor any personal details such as date of birth or marital status.

Who can I send my application to?

I was invited for a personal interview to Berlin. Are my travel expenses covered?

The application deadline has passed, but the job advert is still online. Can I still apply?

Existing accounts can be used at https://wikimedia-deutschland.softgarden.io/sign-in?0&l=de to submit additional documents for existing applications or to manage applications. Your username and current password are required to log in. Your login name is not your email address, even if a password manager pre-fills your email address in that field. Your login name is specified in the password reset emails. When logging in, please pay attention to the exact spelling of the username and the case (upper or lower) of each letter. You may also submit documents without logging in by replying directly to your confirmation email.

I need a visa to work at Wikimedia Deutschland. Do you offer support for the visa process?

Should I apply in German or English?

I received a rejection after my application. Can I get detailed feedback?

I don't live in Berlin. Can I work 100% remotely?

Our office in Berlin is the central meeting hub for Wikimedia Deutschland. Our positions are designed as a hybrid working model with regular presence in our Berlin office. For some positions, it is also important that you regularly attend events in our Berlin office. Employees receive a Deutschland-Ticket; all other forms of travel from outside Berlin and any overnight stays must be paid for by you.

I would like to support Wikimedia as a volunteer and not apply for a job. Where can I find more information about volunteering?

Well-Structured and Friendly Process

So far, I’ve had a very positive experience with the interview process. The communication has been clear, timely, and respectful, which made me feel comfortable and well-informed at each stage. The people I’ve interacted with have been welcoming and supportive, which helped reduce my nervousness and made the experience much more human and less intimidating. Very nice interview!

The interview was really nice and constructive, it made me feel very positive about the team! The only thing that was not ideal that I had to apply twice because something had changed about the job ad since my original application, though the only change I could see was the removal of the salary offered for the role.
